According to the reports published by SMEV sales of total electric vehicles are expected to cross astonishing 10 lakh units this single year which is equal to the combined sales figure of the last 15 years in India. In 2021, India saw two folds jump in sales of two-wheelers in the electric segment which stands at 2,33,971 units of high-speed scooters as compared to 2020’s sales figure of 1,00,736.
SMEV Director General Sohinder Gill said that ” We haven’t seen better days than the last few months in the entire EV journey. In the last 15 years, we collectively sold around 1 million e2w, e-three wheelers, e-cars, and e-buses and we will most likely sell the same 1 million units in just one-year beginning January 2022.
He further said that the recent changes in EV policy through FAME-ll turned out to be a positive sign and game-changer move by the government to uphold the cleaner and greener initiative in the transportation sector while having low dependence on expensive and harmful liquid fuels.
By seeing these measures and a positive approach by the government customers also started shifting in large numbers from petrol-diesels vehicles to electric-powered vehicles. Customers are also very happy with the new EV Revolution as EV offered them attractive pricing, running costs of electric vehicles are much lower & maintenance is also very low than traditional vehicles. Gill said that “a large percentage of customers also want to contribute towards the clean and green initiative and want to promote sustainability, this is also a major factor of rising demand of electric vehicles demand.
By looking at the recent trends, in the next 12/months we may see 5-6 folds of growth over the previous 12 months.
